This teacher guide is aligned with the Competence-based Curriculum produced by REB in 2015. The Rwanda Education Board (REB) has developed English print materials for Primary 2 pupils aligned to the Rwanda competence-based curriculum. These materials are designed to provide teachers with practical approaches and resources for delivering an effective English language and literacy programme.
The Primary 1 Teacher’s Guide contains guidelines for supporting lesson planning, including sample lesson plans. A teacher may teach the lessons exactly as written in the manual.

This manual is a compilation of activities devised over a number of years by VSO volunteers in the Upper East Region of Ghana and has been variously tried out and tested in a number of districts. It contains basic how-to instructions and activities for developing language and teacher early grade reading for P1 and P2 students. This document also contains word charts for building vocabulary, songs for learning letters, guidance on how to teach a sound, sight word list, games for building skills, and a lesson plan for teaching phonics.
